Background
In 1993 Khaled’s father was diagnosed with kidney failure as a result of long term diabetes. In 1997 he decided to enter a car in the Kidney Kar Rally after witnessing first hand the great support the Australian Kidney Foundation provided patients in renal care.
Khaled and his father built a 1975 244 Volvo and had the vehicle ready for the 1997 assault when his father lost his battle with kidney disease 10 days before the rally……. The team went on to raise $11,000 contributing to the total amount of $485,000 and claimed 1st in Class, 2nd Overall, Best Rookie of the Event and the 5th highest fundraiser. On the 10th anniversary he is doing it again with the view of going one better.
Kidney Health Australia, formerly the Australian Kidney Foundation, was officially formed 38 years ago. It is a non-profit organisation with a mission to be the lead organisation promoting kidney and urinary tract health through research, consumer participation, education and health service excellence. It achieves this by increasing awareness, in conjunction with renal specialists, health professionals and educators, to reduce the incidence of kidney disease in the community.
