Kar 41 Rallies on!
On the 17th August, 85 vehicles departed Launceston in Tasmania for the 21st Kidney Kar Rally, with the sgfleet sponsored Kar 41 amongst them. “This is the third year we have sponsored Kar 41,” says Roy Waghorn, General Manager Sales and Marketing. “Our support of this event and other community projects is aligned with our core values and vision to be the pre-eminent provider of Fleet Management and Salary Packaging solutions in Australia.”
Kar 41, owned by team leader Khaled El Sayed, is a 1971 Toyota Crown built entirely from personal funds or gifts/donations from sponsors. The 2009 event was Kar 41’s fourth entry into the rally, having previously competed in 1997, 2007 and 2008.
After three days of rallying through the Tasmanian forests, all 85 vehicles boarded the Spirit of Tasmania for Melbourne, before heading to Ballarat and four days of driving through Victoria and New South Wales to the finishing line in Muswellbrook on 22 August.
Kar 41 finished the rally in one piece and once again received the honour of being the 2nd highest fundraiser for the year raising $30,000 (up $5,000 on last year). Kar 41 was in outright 15th position on the second last day of competition before having to withdraw on the last day.
The Kar 41 team was also awarded the Supreme Achievers Award which is presented to the team that truly epitomizes the values of the Kidney Kar Rally.
“This year’s rally was a huge success,” says Khaled. “The event collectively raised over $520,000 for Kidney Kids Kamps which provide awesome adventures for children with kidney disease.”
One in three Australians is at risk of developing kidney disease. There are no warning signs and there is no cure. Dialysis or transplantation are the only options once your kidneys fail.
