sgfleet - Delivering Excellence

sgfleet’s commitment to delivering excellence could not have been more evident when a custom fitted Isuzu truck was delivered to Tradelink in Queensland recently.

sgfleet has an exclusive agreement to provide corporate leasing to Tradelink who are part of the Crane Group. Crane runs a diverse 1,100 vehicle fleet consisting of passenger sedans, utes and trucks. Tradelink represents the bulk of this fleet with 830 vehicles – these being passenger, light commercial and heavy commercial.

“This truck was a very important delivery,” says Sally Armbrister, sfleet's Queensland Fleet Manager, “as it was the first of about 170 deliveries of this type of vehicle for Tradelink.”

These trucks are used by Tradelink to transport plumbing supplies, including 6 meter long pipe, water heaters and other items such as solar panels. Many of these items can be difficult to load, transport and unload so the fit out of the vehicle was very important. Not only were Tradelink representatives, including OH&S, the driver and store manager, present at the delivery, so was the state manager from Isuzu, the truck body builder - Denkat, the hydraulic Tailgate Loader - Anteo and sfleet’s Sally Armbrister and Rob Dower..

“This was a very useful exercise,” says Rob Dower, sgfleet's Northern Region Trade Commercial Manager. “It meant that the functionality of the truck could be examined and any changes debated on the spot by all stakeholders.”

In fact, about ten changes were suggested and agreed to on the day. “Normally this process could take weeks”, says Rob, “but because everyone was there, including the driver, it meant that agreement was reached quickly.”

Significantly, Tradelink’s OH&S officer was there, so not only were the safety aspects of the truck carefully examined, the impact of the changes were assessed on the spot.

Rather than building the first few bodies and delivering them all around the country with the 10 amendments required, this process means that there is now a prototype agreed on for all future deliveries. This not only means that Tradelink are receiving a fleet of trucks that exactly meets their needs, it has saved them thousands of dollars in down time while truck modifications are made.

This exercise is a demonstration of how complex commercial fleets can be. This was reinforced by the close teamwork required between Sales and Trade Operations, resulting in sgfleet delivering excellence as well as reinforcing its strategic long-term relationship with Tradelink.
